In Red Canary, a service account is a dedicated user account created for automated, non-interactive processes rather than for a specific person. A service account is identified by its email address, which is unique to the account.
Common scenarios for using a service account include:
API integrations: You’re using a third-party integration that uses service accounts authenticate API calls (for example, Google Cloud Platform Workloads). This isolates the integration and allows you to manage its permissions separately from human users.
Automated notifications: You can create a service account with a phone number linked to a pager system, an on-call rotation, or a call tree. This allows the account to be designated as the recipient for time-sensitive automation playbooks or as a contact in an emergency call list.
Create a Service Account User
If you’re using a third-party service account, you’ll need to create a service user account in the same way you invite other users to Red Canary.
Note
You’ll need a valid email address that will receive an invitation email.
Click your user profile at top right of Red Canary, then click Users & Roles.
Enter the email address that will be associated with the service account, then click Invite.
Accept the invitation by clicking the link in the invitation email.
